Pope Nst

Pope Nst is no stranger in Ghana's music scene. He is a young man working to make a difference with his voice and creative songwriting skills. Dedicated to his craft, he writes raps every day with lyrics in both English and Twi (the language native to Ghana), appears in rap battles on TV and radio, and releases freestyle videos, EPs and mixtapes.

The Ghana hip-hop/rap scene is the biggest on the African continent. According to Pope: “In Ghana, rappers usually represent the hood where they were born and raised.”

Pope Nst hails from Nsuta, in the Ashanti region of Ghana. He became enamored with hip-hop/rap when he started high school. Pope states: “Rap helps me to express myself in different ways. . .I get inspiration from almost everything around me.”

Mostly self-taught, before he could create his own lyrics, he would write out verses from Ghanaian rappers Reggie Rockstone, Kwaw Kese, Okyeame Kwame, and Sarkodie.

He would learn them and make sure he could rap along word-for-word with each song. That was in high school. Later, he went on a radio show in Kumasi called “Focus FM Freestyle Friday” which was then hosted by DJ Quest. The feedback from listeners was amazing and motivated him to pursue a music career.

Pope, who graduated from the University of Ghana School of Medicine in 2024, says,

“Music has been a part of me long before I even decided to study medicine. I believe music is my primary purpose on earth, so I will never quit rapping.” Combining his dual interests, the theme of his 2023 album—“Class of 2023 Deluxe Edition”— is about his seven-year journey through medical school.

Pope’s first album was “C.I.T.I.Z.E.N.,” released on the MEII Enterprises label in early 2022. He is planning a third album for release in May 2024.
