Be among the first to hear a new classical work by Eugene Marlow entitled, “Chansons Pour Une Poetesse” (Songs for a Poetess)—a duet for flute and alto flute to be performed by flautist Mary Barto and another artist TBA—at the New York Composer Circle’s (NYCC) first recorded reading session of its current season on March 29. The recorded reading will be held from 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. at Frank & Camille's Fine Pianos, 29 West 57th Street, Second Floor, New York City. Visitors are welcome to attend the Recorded Readings. Note: Due to limited seating, visitors will be seated on a first-come, first-served basis.

Eugene Marlow, Ph.D., presented research-to-date on his “Jazz In China Project” (©2006) at the 34th Annual Conference of the International Association for Jazz Education (IAJE) held in New York City. Those at the well-attended presentation heard Dr. Marlow talk about the central theme of his research--the evolution of jazz in China parallels the social, political, and economic evolution of China in the 20th century and going into the 21st century. The Milt Hinton Jazz Perspectives Concert Series at Baruch College (The City University of New York), of which Eugene Marlow is co-chair, will present the electrically-charged, Manhattan School of Music Afro-Cuban Jazz Orchestra. Led by “Percussionist of the Year,” (DRUM! Magazine 2005) recording artist and performer Bobby Sanabria, they will bring their dynamic clavé to Engelman Recital Hall at Baruch College, 55 Lexington Avenue, NYC (between 24th and 25th Streets). Eugene Marlow’s original Afro-Cuban jazz work “El Aché de Sanabria en Moderación” was premiered twice in October. Fans reveled in the electrically-charged performance by the Bobby Sanabria Big Band on October 20th at the Tribeca Performing Arts Center. On October 30th the Manhattan School of Music Afro-Cuban Jazz Orchestra performed its own roof-raising rendition of the piece. Both groups were led by Afro-Cuban jazz master Bobby Sanabria.

SOLD OUT: Eugene Marlow's first classical CD, "Les Sentiments D'Amour" (Feelings of Love)--20 chansons for solo piano--was performed in its entirety by Lebanese-born, virtuoso solo pianist Nada Loutfi on October 4, 2006 at Steinway Hall, 109 West 57th Street. The one-hour concert began at 6 p.m. A reception followed the concert.

The Manhattan School of Music (MSM) 19-piece Afro-Cuban Jazz Orchestra (under the direction of "Drummer of the Year/2005" Bobby Sanabria) premiered Eugene Marlow's quasi bossa/cha-cha big band piece "Resolution" on February 16, 2006. The premiere performance in front of a packed house took place in MSM's Borden Auditorium, 122nd Street, west of Broadway.

Gene Marlow was interviewed by WBGO on-air host Rhonda Hamilton at the recent International Association for Jazz Education Conference in New York City. Marlow talked about his early musical roots in England. Ms. Hamilton capped off the interview by playing "Taylored for Billy," a cut from Gene's latest CD, "A Summer Afternoon With You." The BMI Jazz Composers Workshop Big Band, under the direction of Jim McNeely, read through Gene Marlow's latest piece for big band--"Curiouser & Curiouser"--on January 10, 2006 at the Musicians' Union (48th Street, between 8th and 9th Avenues). This six-minute work features an improvised interplay between the electric guitar and the first tenor.

Virtuoso classical pianist Nada Loutfi performed several pieces from Eugene Marlow's solo piano collection "Les Sentiments D'Amour" at a concert hosted by the New Music Collective on December 17, 2005, at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music located at 58 Seventh Avenue (corner of Lincoln Place) in Brooklyn. Ms. Loutfi recorded all 20 pieces in the collection on December 19 at One Soul Studios in Manhattan, New York City. The CD will be released in Spring 2006.

Eugene Marlow gave a talk on his research to date on "Jazz in China" at the 7th Annual Aspen Composers' Conference that took place on August 8, 2005 at the Given Institute in Aspen, Colorado. Marlow is planning a second trip to China (Beijing/Shanghai) in July 2006.
Gene Marlow received a grant from the Professional Staff Congress of the City University of New York Research Foundation in Spring 2005 to travel to Beijing and Shanghai,China, to interview Chinese jazz musicians there. This material will be used as a major section in a prospective book on Jazz in China. Dr. Marlow first visited China in the Spring of 2000 when he lectured at the University of Shanghai School of Film and Television.

The Andy LaVerne Piano-Organ Trio performed its arrangement of "Gentle Breeze," a Gene Marlow jazz original, at a Milt Hinton Jazz Perspectives concert, at Engelman Recital Hall, Baruch College, on March 10, 2005. The concert was free and open to the public. Baruch College is located at 55 Lexington Avenue in New York City. The Andy LaVerne Piano-Organ Trio consists of Andy LaVerne (piano), Gary Versace (organ), and Danny Gottlieb (drums).

March 5, 2005, Lebanese-born virtuoso solo pianist Nada Loutfi premiered "Prime Rougir," one of 20 pieces from Eugene Marlow’s forthcoming CD “Les Sentiments D’Amour.” Ms. Loutfi also performed works by Bach, Schubert and Dutilleux. The performance took place at the Pen & Brush, 16 West 10th Street. Ms. Loutfi will record all 20 pieces in the collection in December 2005. Ms. Loutfi describes them as “. . .romantic pieces in the French chanson tradition.”

Eugene Marlow's four movement duet for violin and piano--"Aspects D'Amour"--was performed by Yuri Vodovoz (violin) and Nancy Garniez (piano), both members of Alaria, on February 10, 2005, at CAMI Hall, (New York City). This performance was part of a concert organized by the New York Composers Circle.

The Jazz Journalists Association (JJA), of which Gene Marlow is a member, published Marlow's review of William Minor’s newest work entitled Jazz Journeys to Japan, The Heart Within. The review appears in the JJA’s December 2004 journal.

The BMI Jazz Composers Workshop Big Band performed Gene Marlow’s newest piece for big band—"La Femme Dans Une Lumiere D'Or"—on December 14, 2004. This nine-minute chart is Marlow’s 16th composition for big band. It alternates between soft rock and rhumba-ish rhythms with solos for piano, soprano saxophone, and drums.

Gene Marlow's The Heritage Ensemble opened the festivities of the City of Hope charity event on November 4, 2004 at Capitale in downtown New York. Chanteuse Susan Peirez was featured with the group. Over 300 people attended the black tie event.

Lebanese-born virtuoso pianist Nada performed three of Eugene Marlow's classical works for solo piano (from his "Les Sentiments D'Amour" collection) at the Pen & Brush, 16 East 10th Street, September 26, 2004. In addition to Marlow, Nada performed works from Haydn, Schubert, and Casella. Marlow is finishing revisions to various compositions in this collection in preparation of recording them in late 2005.
